Sister's graduation was today. That was fairly standard . . . got through a lot of The Book of Thoth by Crowley while the boring stuff went on.
Also bought a smaller brush from Junky Spot . . . because the one I'm working with, while it works for SD and even MSD lashes just cannot make lines small enough for Mikoto's lashes (although I will freely admit that probably lies more with my skill than the size of the brush, still I'm going to try a smaller one). I've also made it more priority to practice brush strokes, along with that I want to experiment with different parts combinations of paint and acrylic medium--because that is tripping me up too. I think I definitely need to go get black fluid acrylic, since I can't find the bottle I had. The liquitex paint (which is much thicker) just doesn't compare in terms of mixing with the medium (and was part of my problem with making good tiny size eyelashes, but still, the majority of the problem is that I was just never meant to be a painter lol--must practice the stroke technique!). |

I seem to have lost Mikoto's glasses again :( They're really flimsy, so it's easy for them to slip out of his wig (which is what holds them on, thank god he has an elastic wig that fits snugly) and get lost places.
*sigh* I really need to figure out a way to make a more durable pair for him anyway, but this sucks :( He's so cute with his "Harry-Potter-esque" glasses :( :( :(

No luck so far trading the oldskin body for a minimee one. But that's okay, cause I'm considering keeping it for Reznik now anyway (I love volks bodies *_*). I could probably sell the Bobobie one easier anyway, and lose less money on it. Cause with all the SD13 bodies going up now I'm sure I'd have to sell low to outright sell it *sigh*. That fixes my bobble-head issues with Reznik anyway (even if his pants won't be awesomely baggy anymore :(--that's okay too, cause I recently found a company that makes really baggy pants, so if I decide he needs them baggy I have options!) XD; And the soom head isn't a horrible match with it either.
So now I just have to save up the money to buy Yasuo a body >(
Then maybe I can trade the free head that it comes with for something, assuming DiM is still offering a free head with the minimee body by the time I can buy one. I certainly have no use for it, and I've already got an experimental mod head. (I also don't want to flat out sell it since they specifically say: "Please note that the event head is not an item to be sold separately as a commercial item." But it's a pretty head and I do figure it should go to someone who actually wants it . . . ).
Now I just have to get to saving. If I resist the urge to buy a paid LJ account, the $40 I've got can go into that fund. (Technically I have closer to $80 with what I've already got sitting in my bank account, but I want to leave a little extra there.) |

Impulse tiny arrived ♥ (so cute ;__;)
Now she just needs her wig to come . . . and a name . . . oh, and I have to do a gender switching sanding tomorrow >) Shouldn't be too hard for such a wee little thing.
(Read: She is a boy must make into a girl)
Um, any name suggestions? She's gonna be a fluffy, frilly girly girl . . . if that helps. The only thing I can think of so far is "Candy Floss" . . . but I don't really wanna use that lol. |

Mmm, I just realized that I can totally just stick characters into Yukio's storyline with no real difficulty at all . . . gah, this does not bode well for future doll impulse buying.
. . . or really for the fact that I still have a secret lust for Ricky's Fahren mold. . . . maybe I should keep the oldskin body around once I trade it out for Yasuo -___-;;;;
Edit: Not to mention there's already a glaring hole open for a 60cm girl since Reznik has a female roommate -_-; |

I'm slowly building up people's phone numbers now that I got my replacement cell phone (so if I knew yours and you want me to have it again . . . uh, send it to me somehow, maybe LJ messenger thinger?)
Or you know, if you just want me to know your number for some reason ._o
The impulse tiny should arrive within the next week, since it was sent expedited (this is from info on the Canada post website), but we'll see what happens. It's coming from Ontario, so that's not too great a distance (for those lacking in Canadian geography, Ontario is the providence right above the state I live in, though I suppose whether or not the seller lives on the Ohio side, or more towards the western side of Michigan side of Ontario could affect things).
And one of my teachers wants me to revise my bs paper on magic to actually give as a presentation at a conference. Like you know, one of those ones that people who actually work in the field go to ._o This could be very advantageous both in terms of resumé material and the fact that if I ever *did* study in anthropology it would certainly be related to religion and magic.
It's just that I don't know if I really have time to work on it, as I'm going right into a field class. I told him I'd think about it over the weekend *sigh*. I guess in between working on studying/writing finals material I'll glance at it and see what work it would need to overhaul it.
He doesn't think it'd need much, but I'm apparently more picky than him and I know it would need a complete re-write. If for no other reason than to clarify the focus of it a bit more. I think the part he's most interested in is actually a sort of offshoot that developed as I was writing, and I'd like to explore some of the other ideas more deeply as well if I'm going to do something so serious with the paper. I'd probably like to dig up some more sources to read and reference, or if nothing else read Malinowski more closely. |

It is so tempting to buy a cheap head (maybe an obitsu) just to practice faceups on T_T; And by that I mean really just to practice eyebrows and lashes on. Those are some of my weakest spots. I could probably use the testors for that too . . . so it wouldn't cost me in coating.
Though I could also probably make do practicing brush strokes on paper in the meantime . . . (and I don't *really* know that I want an extra head floating around, I've already got one).
Years ago I had confidence that I could learn to do them really well, but in the last year or so I'd lost that confidence. But now . . . I think I'm starting to gain it again. That feeling that if I work at it I can become awesome at it. XD
Unfortunately most of my boys have set looks, and even Yukio I think I've finally settled on a look for, so I can't just keep repainting them. |

Cellphone stolen today, but we've gotten it taken care of and Verizon is replacing it for free . . . I was up for an upgrade soon anyway, so I figure that's why. The new one won't be as pretty, but eh . . . I do what I have to?
RIP Kurotite (that was the phone's name).
Painting Mikoto at the moment, trying to paint him to match Yasuo. Then I'll try to edit the photos I took of Yasuo today. The wind was blowing, so his hair is all pretty and dynamic (read: in his face) in the photos. |

My digital camera didn't want to cooperate T__T; Kept focusing everywhere BUT YASUO'S FACE.
So only one shot came out. So it's bigger than usual so that you can see more details of his faceup. Wow, it turned out totally 100 x more awesome than I thought it would. I'll take him to school tomorrow and see about taking more photos, methinks.

I'm thinking of changing the title of the doll site (and thus the domain), because it's based on a joke that is just . . . not so funny to me anymore? That and I'd like to put the pinkies on the site too, and they're not exactly resin XD;;;;;; I dunno if I will or not, if I do I want to keep the other domain running at least a few months with a redirect to try to avoid confusion. But since it's up for renewal in about a month, yeah, that means at least for another year it's gonna stay the same.
Besides, I still can't come up with anything better.

Hmm, repainted Reznik. Technically it's a pretty faceup (besides a few small flaws where some of the pastel dust ended up out of place making it look dirty (but uh, you don't see that unless you look close). But it really accents what the previous owner did with his eyes (basically open them up to reshape them to look more Asian). . . . and Rez isn't at all Asian.
. . . so basically I'm not sure I like this lol. It's pretty, but I'm not sure the Namu mod is gonna work at all in the long run. *sigh* Hmm . . . *plots* Maybe if I put eyelashes in him he won't look so . . . Asian. Now where to get brown lashes . . . . |

I just matted three sets of photos for a show being done by the honors program on Friday X__x; It's open submission, so I figured why not. They're all doll photos lol.
The reason I'm babbling about this is because if anyone's for interested I'll probably post them for sale on DA. I doubt anyone will actually buy them, but, if for some reason you'd be interested in either the photos from this deviation, this photo (but with a small amount of pixelation), or some work prints of Yasuo looking very frustrated (like head-desk) from my photo project last semester . . . yeah, those will be available ._o

It was something I'd been considering, and then a good price popped up that was perfect. So . . . I kinda jumped. Man, now I really need to sell some stuff to offset this >__>;

Bleh, so I tried to sew a mikoto size button down shirt. It's very flawed and very much a prototype, though I could probably get it to photograph okay. I need to make a few adjustments to the pattern and I think it'll work fine, though.
. . . but I re-learned my hatred for the sewing machine >_>; And re-learned how difficult it is to make the pedal on mine go slow.
Ankle is feeling much better now. Probably a lot because of the brace we got at wal-mart ^^;;;; |

Since I didn't get to reading I drafted two patterns really quick. Or rather severely modded some pattern pieces I had laying around from various printed patterns. I currently have a half inch seam allowance, I was thinking to give me room to play with, but I think I'm actually gonna take it in to conserve fabric.
. . . besides, looking at my sewing machine 1/4" would be easier to work with >__>; I always had trouble sewing on a machine because I tend to look at the line on the left side . . . but it's on the right side where it has all the measurements XD;;; But there's a line on the left side of mine at a quarter inch . . . so really, it'd work for me XDDD |

So I'm considering buying a new body for Yasuo now, as the oldskin body is definitely too yellow (it's not really *that* bad, but you know, it's poseability is shit too). I'm having a little difficulty finding out just what batch of resin he is from (pretty sure it's something like November of 2007--but that might also be his arrival date; I do not think he's from the earliest batch that matched pureskin though, comparing him to Satoru), and information on exactly what body he'll match. Though he doesn't match any of the ones I currently own lol. Custom House is too white, Iplehouse is too light (though it's probably the closest of all of them, but that body is taller than I want him anyway), and volks (even pureskin) is too yellow.
So after perusing threads I'm thinking maybe DIM minimee. It has it's problems, but I think I can fix those with a bit of customization (and it really cannot be worse than the ones he already has, what with the random collapsing, not being able to sit up a majority of the time without being braced against something, etc). Selling his current body would more than pay for it (if I can find a taker), but I want to wait a bit first because I don't want to have him go bodiless quite yet XD;
I don't mind the body being a lighter tone, I just don't want it darker! Yasuo is enough of an indoors/reserved person you could plausibly expect his body to be lighter than his face :P
I know there's a few chinese sculpts that would probably work too. Like AoD or B&G or something, but those bodies also tend to be more slender than I want for Yasuo. . . . figures, I end up with a puny tiny little "American" ethnic doll and a built Asian (wtf?). On that note, he's really not that bad a match for Bobobie, either.
Might post a feeler in a week or two to see if anyone would do a trade with money added.
I'd feel even better if I could compare him to it . . . but I dunno anyone with a minimee head or body around lol XD; And since I'm not 100% on his resin batch from migidoll posting for comparison on DoA wouldn't be that fruitful either (minimee resin *is* a decent match for one of the batches, btw, I think it might be the one I have, thus my considering it). |

I probably shouldn't have . . . but since I've sold more things doll related I went ahead and splurged a bit . . . bought some slightly more expensive pastels (as in . . . nupastels = $17 for a set of 24 making them about $1.50 each . . . and these new pastels are about $3.50 each) to supplement my current set. Mostly bought some flesh/natural tones. These should have pigments that will show up darker and more intense over a nupastel base . . . I'm hoping.
Also bought another brush since I think I ruined one again . . . I really have to stop doing that.
If I can really get stuff working I'm thinking maybe I can make a summer job out of offering cheap face-ups . . . can't really see charging a lot for my work . . . but maybe $20 or so. I'm not horrible, so I'd probably get a decent amount of business :S
I need to estimate what my supply costs would be (mostly spray costs, since the rest of it would last the summer I'm pretty sure).
Edit: On a completely unrelated note, if I don't get my sleep schedule fixed soon I'm going to have circles under my eyes to rival L >__>; |
